The anomaly scan is also known as the anatomy scan or 20 week scan. The purpose of the scan is to screen for 11 conditions that may be life limiting or require treatment soon after birth. This is in accordance with the Fetal Anomaly Screening Programme. Measurements will be taken of your baby's head circumference, abdominal circumference and femur length. This will ensure your baby is growing as expected. You will also be provided with an estimated fetal weight. You will be able to see your baby’s heartbeat as well as them moving around. You can choose to find out your baby’s gender with this scan. The sonographer is able to tell you the gender during the scan or we can provide a sticker that says “It’s a Boy!” or “It’s a Girl!” within a sealed envelope to reveal to yourselves at home or pass onto someone else to arrange your own gender reveal. If we can help your experience in any way, please ask! Please attend for this scan with a full bladder if possible. Please note the toilet is upstairs in the building. Please be aware that there are limitations to ultrasound and it is not able to detect every abnormality, this scan is designed to detect the physical conditions outlined within the Fetal Anomaly Screening Programme. Following the scan, you will receive black and white scan prints and a scan report.
