Service Description

This scan is suitable from 16-24 weeks of pregnancy. ● Measures the Cervical Length - the cervix is observed for a minimum of 3 minutes and measurements taken. ● Growth assessment: Measures your baby to ensure they are growing as expected. ● Heartbeat & Movement: View your baby’s heartbeat and observe their movements. ● Images and Report: You will receive black and white scan prints and a scan report. A cervical length scan may be suitable for you if you have any of the following: ● Previous preterm birth or late miscarriage ● History of cervical surgery, such as a LLETZ procedure ● Previous caesarean section at full dilatation ● Mullerian duct anomaly - such as bicornuate uterus ● A connective tissue disorder such as Ehlers-Danlos syndrome You cannot have a cervical length scan if your waters have already broken or you have bleeding because of placenta praevia. The first part of the scan will check the wellbeing of your baby by scanning transabdominally, so please attend with a full bladder. The cervical length scan is performed transvaginally, which is an internal scan. You will be asked to empty your bladder for this part of the scan. Please note the toilet is upstairs within the clinic.
