Growth Scan

Service Description

This scan is suitable from 24 weeks of pregnancy. ● Growth assessment and Estimated Fetal Weight: Measures your baby to ensure they are growing as expected and provides an estimated weight of your baby. ● Liquor Volume and Umbilical Artery Dopplers: Measures the amount of water around your baby and the blood flow within your baby’s cord. ● Images and Report: You will receive black and white scan prints and a scan report. The scan will take measurements of your baby’s head circumference, abdominal circumference and femur length to ensure they are growing as expected. These measurements are used to provide an estimated weight of your baby, which can be plotted by you or your midwife onto your growth chart within your pregnancy notes. Measurements will also be taken of the amount of water around your baby and the blood flow within your baby’s cord. Following the scan, you will receive black and white scan prints and a scan report. You do not require a full bladder for this scan, but please note that if needed the toilet is upstairs within the building. If there are any concerns with the scan findings, with your consent, we will refer you to the Maternity Unit within the NHS Trust that you have booked your pregnancy.
